E36: Hey Bear!:
The Story Behind the Photograph.

This week’s episode covers the story behind a sweet image I captured of a mama bear in Glacier National Park. It was a beautiful moment viewing this amazing creature and also had me realizing the importance of bears and other animals in the ecosystem.

Come along with me as I tell the story of how I, and about 30 other park visitors and rangers helped to protect this mama bear and her two little cubs. We’ll also explore a bit about their importance to the health of the environment and how we as human beings benefit from it.

E35: Ubuntu, The Merging of Two Rivers:
The Story Behind the Photograph.

This week’s episode covers the story behind a really cool photograph taken in Slovakia this past Fall. It was an optical illusion and an amazing natural phenomenon as two rivers (The Danube and Morava) merged into one. 

I couldn’t help but think about the South African term, “ubuntu” as I watched this awesome effect occur.  The word is often described as: “I am because we are”. These two rivers coming together to form this beautiful swirling of water and colors… becoming natural art happened right in front of my eyes and I captured it.

Have you ever been in a situation where you’re not feeling well and/or you’re feeling some kind of discomfort… and then you notice something beautiful around you and you automatically feel better? 

Well, that’s what happened to me on a boat trip in rough waters this last Fall in Portugal. I was really sea sick… yet, immersed in so much beauty I couldn’t resist clicking my camera… and it made me feel better, doing so! 

In this episode I’ll share the story behind the photograph, that I captured in Portugal on the beautiful Algarve Coast. 

My hope is to inspire you, the next time you’re not feeling well, to look at the beauty all around you, which could help you feel better, just like it did for me!

Have you ever wondered what was going on when an image was captured? Where it was taken? What was the feeling when capturing…awe, gratitude and magic?

Well, in this episode, I’m introducing a new series called “The Story of the Photograph”, which is essentially the behind the scenes of the image.  This first episode goes into the story of finding naturally formed hearts in nature and the cool scientific phenomenon called the Frequency Illusion. Plainly stated, once you learn of something for the first time, your brain starts to notice more and more of it. So when it comes to beauty, the more you seek it, the more it will naturally come into your life (like the naturally formed hearts in this episode)!

As the world turns and we are collectively and individually faced with many challenges and bumps in the road, the one thing we have control over is perspective.

For this episode, I’m excited to share a conversation with my new beautiful friend, Shane Svorec (bio below), who a year ago released the #1 new release book: “Broken Little Believer. Finding Purpose in All the Pretty Painful Pieces.”

There is so much beauty in the book where she tells the true story of her life and her journey of overcoming unimaginable odds in hopes that people can resonate with the experiences and find purpose in all their pretty and painful pieces.

Walking away from this conversation, I’m encouraged by the fact that we do have the choice in how we want to live our lives and that if more and more people live in this way, what a better world we would live in.

Episode 27: She Can Run The World! Here’s How… With Molly Snow.

The world needs more organizations like “Girls on the Run” and more people like my dear friend, Molly Snow… who is leading this beautiful organization in Los Angeles! (More about Molly below.) They are doing such amazing work empowering and building confidence in girls ages 8-14 with the hope that these girls will grow into our future leaders of the world… and will lead with compassion, kindness, empathy and integrity - something that seems to be lost these days in a world full of noise and negativity. 

In this episode, Molly explains the components of the program and the powerful transformation and results that she sees every season running the program. My favorite: the feeling that each girl experiences as they cross the finish line of their 5K. 

“Your existence can make the world better… (we are all) here is some way to contribute positively”… just about sums up a huge component of what GOTR is teaching (as described by Molly.) And you know, how much that resonates with me!

A little more about Keri: 

Keri Jones-Fonnesbeck, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), has dedicated the majority of her career to the mission of Eliminating Racism and Empowering Women through work at the YWCA, both locally and nationally.  She currently serves as the Senior Director of Member Services at YWCA USA and has since 2019.  In that capacity, she oversees a team of directors implementing a variety of technical assistance and training needs for over 200 YWCA’s across the US. Before joining YWCA USA, she worked in many different roles at the front line and management teams for YWCA Utah. During her 17 years of service there, her work focused primarily on serving families who have been impacted by domestic violence, providing oversight for emergency and transitional housing, early education, and YWCA Utah’s Family Justice Center; and in the operational side of the organization through oversight of facilities, administration, IT, and human resources. In addition, Keri brought and led implementation of the Sanctuary Model — an evidence-based organizational change model rooted in trauma-informed care — to YWCA Utah.

Before starting her journey with YWCA, Keri worked with cancer survivors, youth from war-torn areas around the world, and within hospital social work. She has served on the Salt Lake City Human Rights Commission, and on several nonprofit governing boards. In 2014, she was honored as a “Rising Star: 40 under 40” by Utah Business Magazine, and in 2016, she was given the “ACE: Advocacy, Collaboration and Education” award from the Utah Domestic Violence Coalition. 

Keri has a bachelor’s degree from Utah State University in Social Work and Management, and a Master of Social Work from the University of Denver. She lives in Centerville, Utah, with her husband and two children.

Episode 24: Spreading Kindness in the Face of Fear. Practical Love for Ukraine.

Our world is in crisis again. This time, in the beautiful country and amongst the beautiful people of Ukraine. People are fearing for their lives, being separated from family and losing every earthly possession. This, all in the name of war. 

With a heavy heart, I have a hard time navigating the best way to help in these situations and I’m guessing, if you are listening to this podcast you might, too. 

My intention and commitment through this podcast and all of my work, is to illuminate the beauty and kindness of the world… even and especially in the darkest of times… times so loaded with fear and sadness, that it’s sometimes so overwhelming to figure out what to do. 

Today, my goal is to highlight the kindness that often occurs in the center of fear… and the realization that both can exist simultaneously… and that we get to chose which one to lean into. And to highlight the people making and impact one step at a time… Community coming together creating a force of love and support…

And to tell you that you get to have a part if you choose in this kindness whatever way you’d like and that it matters. Every single action, matters.

The Mindset and Strategy that Leads to Meaningful Success with Molly Fast. 

Molly Fast is a highly experienced fundraiser and a leader in peer-to-peer fundraising.

A bit more about Molly: Molly Fast found the peer-to-peer fundraising space after her own mother's breast cancer diagnosis in 1999 led her sister Kara to participate in the Breast Cancer 3-Day. She became a participant in that event too and then it became her job. For more than 20 years, Molly has been using fundraising as a way to lead, connect and inspire those around her. After her father died of esophageal cancer in 2004 at the age of 55, Molly turned her personal fundraising attention to raising money for rare cancer. Through her participation in Cycle for Survival, she's raised more than $330,000 in the past 10 years. She also serves on the board of Girls on the Run of Los Angeles. And loves to play the role of personal fundraising coach and cheerleader to all her friends and family who fundraise for all the causes that mean so much to them. When Molly isn't teaching people about her love language (fundraising), you can find her wandering around her home-away-from home in Ireland.

Episode 15: Q: What do Rock & Roll and

Episode 13: Take a Wonder Walk with Me.

During the last several months, especially in the height of the pandemic, I’ve found so much solace and healing in my immediate outdoor environment. In this episode I take you on walk right in my neighborhood and on my local trail. My goal and intention was to capture something spectacular while experiencing the soothing sounds and peace of the environment. 

It might seem to be an ordinary walk to some, but to me, it’s always extraordinary and this one was no exception.

Often times, I hear that inquiring minds want to know about the behind the scenes and story behind the photographs that I’ve captured.

Episode 4: Living a Life With No Limits.

In this episode I uncover the beauty of the No Limits Cafe in Red Bank, NJ. Not only did I get to experience the wonderFULL cafe in full motion, I had some time with the amazing people that make up the No Limits Cafe - the staff, employees and volunteers were beautiful. It was such a gift to interact with them.

I also got to sit down with Stephanie Cartier, who is one of the founders of the No Limits Cafe. It was wonderFULL to hear the story of how the organization came to be and how it’s evolved, especially during this past year in the midst of the pandemic. 

It is all such an inspiration and will leave you with a desire to get to the Cafe to experience it all yourself!

Episode 3: The beauty of Freedom in Argentina. How yoga plays a big part in Prison.

Argentina is one of the most beautiful places I’ve been too. 

In this episode, I share the wonder and beauty I experienced as I visited penguins in their natural habitat, hiked up mountains and ice trekked up glaciers as well as worked with a beautiful social impact organization called Moksha that is providing yoga classes to men and women in prison… which in turn is giving them inner freedom!

Episode 1: INspiration in Beauty and Social Impact.
An INtro to Project WonderFULL.

In this episode I introduce Project WonderFULL and the inspiration behind it. I tell the story of working with a small non-profit in Kenya and how this inspired Project WonderFULL.

I also introduce the idea of mindFULL photography and how that came about during the heart of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Finally, I talk about the next steps for Project WonderFULL, essentially to continue to do the social impact work in the United States - hitting all 50 and the 5 territories and visiting all 63 national parks... something that's been on my bucket list for a very long time.

My hope is to leave you inspired by the kindness and beauty in this world and to see the beauty that is all around you, every day!
